Conversation 1

Person 1: So, what are you planning to do for your vacation, Mary?

Person 2: Oh, I’m doing something really exotic  this year. You know, I went to the Caribbean last year and just stayed on a beach for two weeks. This year I’m going river rafting.

Person 1: Oh, that sounds great!! But, what is it exactly?

Person 2: Oh, you know, it’s in Jarabacoa, they have trips down yaque del norte river, the water gets really rough… I think it will be really exciting. Oh, I’m doing some mountain climbing, too.

Person 1: And you call that “a vacation”?

Conversation 2

Person 1: What are your plans for the summer, Carlos?

Person 2: Oh, I’d love to go and lie on a beach in the Caribbean. But I need to save some money for college. I think I’ll stay here and get a job somewhere.

Person 1: That doesn’t sound like fun!!

Person 2: Oh, it won’t be too bad. Some of my friends are going to work this summer, too. So, we’ll do some parties in on the weekends.

Visiting New york

What should people do to make their visit New York City safe and pleasant?

The biggest mistake many people make is trying to do too much in a short time. There’s so much to see and do that you

need to have a plan. It’s best to start planning before you get here, so you have information about hotels, restaurants,

sightseeing, and so on. Visitors can use our website to get the information they need to start planning before they come

here.

How safe is New York City?

New York is a much safer place than many people think. In fact, it’sthe safest it’s been inthirty years. but that doesn’t

mean that people don’t have tobe careful. Tourists in New York are to be careful. Just like in any big city in the world.

For students, I will sayTravel in groups“. If you get lost, it’s easier as a group to find your way. You really shouldn’t go

off on your own if you can find someone to go with you. Another thing to remember is, “Don’t be afraid. Ask for direction“.

Even if your English is imperfect.People often stop me on the street to ask for direction. And that’s not only foreign visitors.

American visitors often have trouble finding their way around. And you’ll find New Yorkers are really very friendly.

Another advice

Well, another thing to remember is not to leave anything valuable in your car, if you have one. Don’t leave suitcases on the

back seat where people can see them. Most cars are very easy to get into, so it’s not worth the risk. But most people have a

great time when they come to New York. And you will, too, if you use your common sense.
