Compound nouns

Compound nouns are sometimes one word, like toothpaste, haircut, or bedroom and sometimes they appear as two separated words like full moon, christmas tree, and swimming pool.

Modal verb “should”

Should can be used:

 

1.       To express something that is probable
Examples:
“John should be here by 2:00 PM.”
“He should be bringing Jennifer with him.

 

2.       To ask questions
Examples:
“Should we turn left at this street?”
“Shouldn’t you be getting ready for work?”

 

3.      To show obligation, give recommendation or even an opinion
Examples:
“You should stop eating fast food.”
“You should go for walks more often.”
“We should go to the park tomorrow.”
“He should go to the pharmacy first thing in the morning.”

 

Adverbs of quantity

Countable nouns

There are too many cars parked outside.

There aren’t enough hotdogs for everybody

We need more hotdogs for the party.

It’s almost 12:00 Am there should be fewer people.

 Uncountable nouns

There is too much alcohol on my drink.

There isn’t enough food for everybody.

We need more parking.

There should be less noise in a few minutes.

Indirect questions

Questions with “be”

Where is the gas station?

Where is the hospital?

Indirect questions:

Could you tell me where the gas station is?

Do you know where the hospital is?

Wh questions with “do” and “did”

When did she come to the house?

What time does the drugstore open?

Indirect questions:

Do you know when she came to the house?

Can you tell me when the drugstore opens?

Conversation

Person 1: Why is there never a bus when you need one?

Person 2: Good question. There aren’t enough buses on this route.

Person 1: Sometimes I feel like staying home and sleep all day but I really need to get to work.

Person 2:  Yeah I know this is terrible. This town needs more public transportation.

Person 1: There should be more public transportation and fewer cars, there’s too much traffic.

Person 2: Hey look, there’s a bus coming, thank goodness.

Person 1: Yeah let’s go we’re lucky is not full.
